Due to the popularity of the new Korean series ‘Squid Game’, Netflix Korea opened a pop-up game experience zone in Itaewon Station, a district located in the middle of Seoul.
‘Ogem World’ was an experience space that embodied the set of Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’, which is gaining popularity worldwide. The Squid Game pop-up playground was a space that mimicked multiple games of the series and it gave the opportunity to win small gifts such as the marbles that can be seen on some episodes.
We visited this station on a weekday around noon, expecting few visitors. However, we were really surprised when we found a lot of people waiting to take pictures in line. The giant doll that guides the game “Green light, red light” and that you can see in the trailer was the most popular among the crowd.
Along the stairs, the station area was also filled with Squid Game-themed wallpapers and screens displaying promotional videos.
This game zone was expected to last until next week but Netflix Korea decided to shut down the space earlier than expected to comply with the quarantine rules of the South Korean government as the country recently experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases.
In case you have not seen this Korean drama, ‘Squid Game’ shows the story of a group of people who participate in a mysterious competition in which they have the chance to win a prize of 45.6 billion Korean won (around USD $39 million).
The show has gained a lot of popularity in many countries and it recently reached the No. 1 position in the United States, the first Korean drama to do so in history. We are pretty sure that many people will definitely take some inspiration from this Korean series for their Halloween costume this year.
In our personal opinion, you will really like this Netflix original series if you are a huge fan of suspense and action with a bit of a twist of reality. But please mind that some scenes may shock you or make you jump from your seat!
